| dc.description | Unit 25, Cristo La Única Esperanza was inaugurated in 2002 to house inmates who professed the evangelical faith and who were willing to accept that the main rules of the prison were directed and implemented by intramural religious authorities, who administered the institution with the full and explicit support of the guards and the hierarchies of the Buenos Aires Penitentiary Service (SPB). During its beginnings and for a few more years, both the directors and the majority of its guards and professionals also confessed the evangelical faith and adhered to its particular intramural administration. Most of the inmates of U25 had requested this destination and all those who remained there did so by personal decision and undertook to submit to an extremely strict regime that, among other things, prohibited the use of tobacco, drugs and alcohol, while requiring active participation in the - for many - exhausting religious, work and study activities. In exchange, they were offered a detention without risk to their physical integrity and far from the extreme deprivation and overcrowding that distinguish the rest of the SPB prisons. | en |
| dc.description | La Unidad 25, Cristo La Única Esperanza fue inaugurada en 2002 para alojar internos que declarasen la fe evangélica y que estuvieran dispuestos a aceptar que las principales reglas de la cárcel fueran dirigidas e instrumentadas por autoridades religiosas intramuros, las que administraban la institución con el total y explícito respaldo de los guardias y las jerarquías del Servicio Penitenciario Bonaerense (SPB). Durante sus comienzos y por algunos años más, tanto los directivos como la mayoría de sus guardias y profesionales también confesaron la fe evangélica y adherían a su particular administración intramuros. La generalidad de los internos de la U25 había solicitado ese destino y todos los que permanecían allí lo hacían por decisión personal y asumiendo el compromiso de sujetarse a un régimen sumamente estricto que, entre otras cosas, prohibía el consumo de tabaco, drogas y alcohol, a la vez que exigía una activa participación en las -para muchos- agobiantes actividades religiosas, de trabajo y de estudio. A cambio, se les ofrecía una detención sin riesgos para su integridad física y alejada de las privaciones extremas y el hacinamiento que distinguen al resto de las cárceles del SPB. | es |
