| dc.description | This article presents notable aspects of the evolution of the School of Public Health “Dr. Salvador Allende G.” at the University of Chile since its creation in 1943 from a personal historical perspective. The School made significant academic progress and became a national leader in Latin America from that date until September 1973. From 1973 to 1999, the military dictatorship directed the organization with military officers and a public health physician. This reduced its presence in Chile and internationally while maintaining its core activities. The School has made significant progress since the turn of the century, highlighted by the creation of the Doctorate in Public Health in 2003, reform of master’s programs, strengthened academic and professional body, innovative program planning and management, and renewed international presence in Latin America and globally. | en-US |
| dc.description | Este artículo presenta, desde una perspectiva histórica personal, aspectos destacables de la evolución de la Escuela de Salud Pública “Dr. Salvador Allende G.” de la Uni¬versidad de Chile desde su creación el año 1943. Desde esa fecha hasta septiembre de 1973 tuvo un desarrollo académico progresivo y multidisciplinario, que la llevó a constituirse en líder a nivel nacional e institución destacada de América Latina en este campo. Durante la dictadura militar, 1973-1999, fue dirigida por interventores militares y un médico salubrista designado, disminuyendo su presencia tanto en Chile como a nivel internacional, manteniendo sus actividades centrales. Su recuperación se inició en el umbral del siglo XXI, período en que destacan la creación del Doctorado en Salud Pública el año 2003 y la reforma de sus maestrías, el fortalecimiento del cuerpo académico y profesional, junto con una planificación y gestión innovadora del quehacer académico al igual que la reinserción internacional de la Escuela en América Latina y a nivel global. | es-ES |
