dc.descriptionJarava Ruiz et Pav. is recognized as South American genus. This genus would include all those species treated frequently as Stipa L. s.l. according to South American agrostologists. Even if different morphological structure can be identify, is important and common in this genus that anthoecia showed morphological characters for a wind dispersion (Stipa subgenus Jarava, Stipa subgenus Ptilostipa and Stipa subgenus Pappostipa). Long hairs at the top of the lemma (pappus) or plumose awns are interpreted as evolutionary novelty. These structures are considered advanced characters for a wind dispersion of diasporas. Species with axillaries aerial cleistogamy should be also included in Jarava. Under this considerations a new delimitation for the genus and new combinations are realized.en-US
dc.descriptionSe reconoce para América del Sur el género Jarava Ruiz et Pav. Este género incluiría a todas aquellas especies tratadas frecuentemente por los agrostólogossudamericanos dentro de Stipa L. s.l. cuyos antecios presentan rasgos morfológicos asociados a una anemocoría especializada (Stipa subgen. Jarava, Stipa subgen. Ptilostipa y Stipa subgen. Pappostipa). La presencia de pelos largos en el ápice de la lema formando un pappus, o bien, de aristas plumosas o paposas, se interpretan como novedades evolutivas, es decir, caracteres avanzados a una dispersión de las diásporas por el viento. También, se incluyen dentro de Jarava aquellas especies que han evolucionado hacia una cleistogamia aérea axilar. Se realiza una enmienda del género y se dan a conocer las nuevas combinaciones.es-ES
