The MAPSE Rapa Nui Museum houses five types of collections, which are classified according to their context of acquisition and type of heritage. The types are: Archaeological, Foundational, Ethnographic, Commodate and Research. In addition, the museum is in charge of granting the appropriate conservation conditions to the bio-anthropological vestiges of the rapanui ancestors. What is considered and selected as heritage has been dynamic over time, its justification goes hand in hand with the socio-political context of the place and is directly reflected in the objects that make up the different collections of the Museum. This article presents two cases of specific collections where their acquisition strategy is analyzed and also the reality of the Rapa Nui Museum is presented, regarding the protection of the rapanui ancestors or ivi tupuna and its adaptation to the current movement of repatriation and restitution of cultural objects and lands.El MAPSE Museo Rapa Nui alberga cinco tipos de colecciones, las cuales se clasifican según su contexto de adquisición y tipo de patrimonio. Los tipos son: Arqueológica, Fundacional, Etnográfica, Comodato e Investigaciones. Además, el museo se encarga de otorgar las condiciones de conservación apropiadas a los vestigios bioantropológicos de los ancestros rapanui. Lo considerado y seleccionado como patrimonial ha sido dinámico en el tiempo, su justificación va de la mano del contexto sociopolítico del lugar y se ve directamente reflejado en los objetos que componen las diferentes colecciones del Museo. En este artículo se presentan dos casos de colecciones específicas, en que se analiza la estrategia de adquisición de ellas y, también, se presenta la realidad del Museo Rapa Nui, en cuanto al resguardo de los ancestros rapanui o ivi tupuna y su adaptación al actual movimiento de repatriación y restitución de objetos culturales y de tierra.
