Exhibitions of human remains in museums form an integral part of national and international discussions between science, academia and indigenous communities concerning the respectful treatment of their forefathers. The debates centre on issues of ethics, human morbidity, historical debts and the perception of these bodies as human beings. This research aims to assess the status quo of human remains exhibitions in museums of the Valparaiso region, Chile. Bibliographic compilations of legal and regulatory guidelines for the handling of human remains in museums, along with interviews of professionals in this field, were conducted. The data was analysed through content analysis to extract perceptions and guidelines on the exhibition of human remains in museums. Consensus was reached recommending against the display of human remains in such institutions, and further research on the topic was deemed necessary.Las exhibiciones de cuerpos humanos en museos forman parte de las discusiones a nivel nacional e internacional entre las ciencias, la academia y los pueblos originarios respecto del tratamiento respetuoso de los ancestros de estos últimos. Los debates giran en torno a la ética, el morbo, las deudas históricas y la conceptualización de estos cuerpos como seres humanos. Esta investigación busca diagnosticar la situación de las exhibiciones de cuerpos en museos de la región de Valparaíso, en Chile. Se realizaron recopilaciones bibliográficas de leyes y normativas sobre el tratamiento de cuerpos humanos en museos, y entrevistas a profesionales relacionados con la temática, las cuales fueron examinadas mediante el método de análisis de contenido. Se obtuvieron percepciones y directrices sobre la exposición de cuerpos en museos, y se concluyó que existe consenso sobre su no exhibición en dichas instituciones, así como también la necesidad de más investigaciones respecto a la problemática.
