dc.description	The most accepted theory since the early twentieth century holds that obstruction of the appendicular lumen due to fecalites is the main cause of appendicitis. Interestingly, most of these fecalites do not exceed 10 mm, which is surprising considering that they occupy a small space in an appendix that resembles a narrow, blind-tipped cylinder. Next, we will discuss a clinical case of acute retrocecal appendicitis caused by a giant appendicolith (larger than 20mm). This particular case presented a latent clinical course and predominantly urinary symptoms, with no apparent inflammatory response. However, during surgery it was discovered that the appendix was perforated and gangrenous.	en-US
dc.description	La teoría más aceptada desde principios del siglo XX sostiene que la obstrucción del lumen apendicular debido a fecalitos es la principal causa de apendicitis. Curiosamente, la mayoría de estos fecalitos no superan los 10 mm, lo que es sorprendente considerando que ocupan un espacio reducido en un apéndice que se asemeja a un cilindro estrecho y de punta ciega. A continuación, discutiremos un caso clínico de apendicitis aguda retrocecal causada por un apendicolito gigante (más grande de 20mm). Este caso particular presentó un curso clínico latente y síntomas predominantemente urinarios, sin respuesta inflamatoria aparente.
