dc.description	The original version of the Civil Code, in force since 1855, discriminated against married women. By the mere fact of marriage, they were considered relatively incapable, subjugated under the authority of their husbands, and limited in the exercise of their civil rights. The government program of the Popular Unity proposed the eradication of this discrimination. In this article, an analysis is made of the components of the bill «Modification of the provisions of the Civil Code relating to the legal capacity of married women», which was supported by the government of President Salvador Allende, and vigorously promoted in Congress with the objective of conferring full legal capacity to married women. However, this bill was never enacted due to the abrupt democratic interruption that took place because of the coup d’état and the subsequent establishment of the civil-military dictatorship. In this context and considering that the regime of conjugal partnership in marriage maintains discrimination, the scope and proposals of the Popular Unity project are examined in the light of the evolution of the legal status of married women from the promulgation of the Civil Code to the present.	en-US
dc.description	La versión original del Código Civil, vigente desde 1855, discriminaba a las mujeres casadas. Por el solo hecho de contraer matrimonio eran consideradas incapaces relativas, subyugadas bajo la autoridad de sus esposos y limitadas en el ejercicio de sus derechos civiles. El programa de gobierno de la Unidad Popular propuso erradicar esta discriminación. En el artículo se analizan los componentes del proyecto de ley «Modificación de las disposiciones del Código Civil relativas a la capacidad legal de la mujer casada», que fue respaldado por el gobierno del presidente Salvador Allende y promovido con vigor en el Congreso para conferir plena capacidad jurídica a las mujeres casadas. No obstante, no llegó a ser promulgado debido a la abrupta interrupción democrática como consecuencia del golpe de Estado y la posterior instauración de la dictadura cívico-militar. En este contexto, y considerando que el régimen de sociedad conyugal en el matrimonio sigue siendo discriminador, se examinan los alcances y propuestas del proyecto de la Unidad Popular a la luz de la evolución de la condición legal de las mujeres casadas, desde la promulgación del Código Civil hasta la actualidad.	es-ES
