dc.descriptionThis article explains how the Puna de Atacama appeared in scientific narratives about the desert, based on the analysis of the texts of different travelers who, in the service of the Chilean government, traveled through that space during the second half of the 19th century. With this, the aim is to show a process of significance of the desert plateau, in which the void gave way to an orographic labyrinth, with a particular sociability and history, which was then again represented as a marginal space. All notions that allow us to reflect on the dynamism that characterized the images of the Puna de Atacama, the desert mountain ranges and, ultimately, of a frontier place, whose definitions depended on the contexts and actors that participated in its construction.en-US
dc.descriptionEste artículo explica cómo apareció la Puna de Atacama en las narraciones científicas sobre el desierto, a partir del análisis de los textos de distintos viajeros que, al servicio del gobierno chileno, recorrieron ese espacio durante la segunda mitad del siglo XIX. Con ello, se pretende mostrar un proceso de significación de la meseta desértica, en que el vacío dio paso a un laberinto orográfico, con una sociabilidad e historia particular, que luego fue nuevamente representado como un espacio marginal. Todas nociones que permiten reflexionar sobre el dinamismo que caracterizó las imágenes de la Puna de Atacama, las cordilleras del desierto y, en definitiva, de un lugar de frontera, cuyas definiciones dependieron de los contextos y actores que participaron en su construcción.es-ES
