This article shares aspects of the mapuche-pehuenche culture that have been conserved until the present day. Although the autochthonous population of the area has been Christianised, belief in Ngünechen (“he who governs the people”) remains fully present, including his influence in individuals’ life and destiny, even after death. In this respect, it is very important to conserve the traditional language, which should not be forgotten by the young generations of today, since it is through language that the important values of the culture, inherited from the ancestors, will persist, and not be lost. The information comes from two members of the Cauñicu community, profoundly knowledgeable in their culture, the brothers Lorenzo and Ramón Naupa Epuñán.En este artículo se muestran aspectos de la cultura mapuche-pehuenche que se han conservado hasta el presente. Aunque la población autóctona del sector ha sido cristianizada, se mantiene plenamente vigente la creencia en Ngünechen (“el que gobierna a la gente”) y su influencia en la vida y destino de las personas, incluso después de la muerte. Al respecto, es muy importante conservar la lengua originaria, la cual no debe ser olvidada por las generaciones jóvenes actuales, pues mediante ella permanecerán, y no se perderán, los valores importantes de la cultura, heredados de los antepasados. La información procede de dos miembros de la comunidad de Cauñicú, profundos conocedores de su cultura, los hermanos Lorenzo y Ramón Naupa Epuñán.
