El presente estudio tiene como objeto la historia regional y la relación entre economía, medio geográfico y hechos coyunturales de orden social, ejemplificadas en la llegada de colonos alemanes a la región de Valdivia que arribaron y fueron traídos por el Estado chileno para explotar las tierras y dedicarse a faenas de orden agrícola. Sin embargo, por limitantes de orden medioambiental, éstas no pudieron ser llevadas a cabo por completo, lo que obligó a los colonos a volver a sus antiguos oficios de orden manual, práctico e intelectual, y desembocó posteriormente en una reactivación económica-mercantil que daría paso en el futuro a un número considerable de industrias con importancia a nivel regional y nacional.This study focuses on regional history and the relationshiop between the economy, the geographic environment and circumstancial events of a social nature. An example of these happenings is the arrival to the Valdivia region of German settlers brought by the Chilean state to exploit the land and devote themselves to agricultural work. However, due to environmental limitations, these tasks could not be carried out completely, which forced the settlers to return to their former manual, practical and intellectual occupations. Later on, this resulted in an economic-commercial reactivation which in future years would give way to a considerable number of industries of regional and national importance.
