Abstract: The article aims to address the rationale and justification of multiple sanctioning systems, that is, those sanctioning systems in which the same facts constitute two or more offenses that fall under the competence of different authorities, seeking to identify and analyse the reasons why legislators choose to establish them. From my perspective, it is necessary to reflect on the rationale of multiple sanctioning systems in order to adequately resolve the problem of their legitimacy, which has been questioned mainly from the perspective of the prohibition of bis in idem.Resumen: El presente artículo tiene por objetivo abordar el fundamento y la justificación de los sistemas sancionatorios de vía múltiple, es decir, aquellos sistemas sancionatorios en que un mismo hecho constituye dos o más infracciones, cuyo conocimiento es competencia de distintas autoridades, procurando identificar y analizar las razones por las cuales los legisladores optan por establecerlos. Reflexionar adecuadamente sobre el fundamento de los sistemas sancionatorios de vía múltiple resulta imprescindible a fin de solucionar adecuadamente el problema de su legitimidad, la cual ha sido cuestionada principalmente desde la perspectiva de la prohibición de bis in idem.
