dc.descriptionThe review shows general aspects of Orthotics, pretending to be a contribution for occupational therapists who work in the area of ​​physical health or who are projecting in it.The occupational therapist is recognized in work teams as an expert in the manufacture of orthoses, in different care contexts such as hospitals, rehabilitation centers and primary care facilities, among others.This narrative review offers a conceptual approach to Orthotics, the historical duality of the conceptual nomination “orthosis or splint” and the role of occupational therapy in orthotics. In addition, classifications generated by international organizations are presented, mentioning the one that is mostly used in Chili. At the same time, biomechanical considerations to be taken into account in orthotic intervention processes are presented, which contribute to a correct selection of the device, complying with the requirements proposed by the pathology and with the anatomical conditions of the user. The second section exposes the various options for materials and accessories to be used in the manufacture of these devices. The third section points out the importance of understanding the therapeutic purpose to be fulfilled, and also how to develop a mold and mold in the body structure, as well as the indications and precautions to consider in the use of the orthosis.en-US
dc.descriptionEsta revisión muestra aspectos generales de la Ortótica, información de interés para terapeutas ocupacionales que se desempeñen en el área de la salud física o que estén proyectándose en ésta, ya que él o la terapeuta ocupacional son reconocidos en los equipos de trabajo como expertos en el área de confección de órtesis, en diferentes contextos de atención como hospitales, centros de rehabilitación y dispositivos de atención primaria, entre otros.Por medio de una revisión narrativa, este artículo pretende un acercamiento conceptual a la Ortótica, entregando antecedentes teóricos y descriptivos sobre los dispositivos ortésicos y la dualidad histórica de nominación conceptual “órtesis o férula”. Además, se presentan las clasificaciones utilizadas a nivel nacional e internacional, generadas por organizaciones internacionales y aquella que es mayormente utilizada en nuestro país (Chile). Se presentan consideraciones biomecánicas a tener en cuenta en los procesos de intervención ortésica, que contribuyen a una correcta selección del dispositivo, cumpliendo con los requerimientos propuestos por la patología y con las condiciones anatómicas de la persona usuaria. La segunda sección, expone las diversas opciones de materiales y aditamentos a utilizar en la confección de estos dispositivos. La tercera sección, señala la importancia de comprender el propósito terapéutico a cumplir, y también cómo desarrollar un molde y moldear en la estructura corporal, así como también las indicaciones y precauciones a considerar en el uso de la órtesis.es-ES
