This article is about the associative process that took place in Villa del Cerro in Montevideo, between 1920s and 1950s, a period of boom and crisis of the meat-packing processing industry that was installed in it, trying to make it relevant. It means, the relationships between workspaces and neighborhood, and the influence of both dimensions in the formation of worker’s identity. The reconstruction of this associative process was carried out from secondary sources, local press and a large set of texts based on testimonies, observing that the numerous and diverse organizations that were created in the Cerro nurtured the experiences and repertoires of their neighbors and workers, contributing meaningfully to the formation of their identity.Este artículo aborda el proceso asociativo que se desarrolló en la Villa del Cerro de Montevideo entre las décadas de 1920 y 1950, período de auge y crisis de la industria frigorífica que se instaló en ella, pretendiendo relevar las relaciones entre los espacios del trabajo y el barrio, y la influencia de ambas dimensiones en la formación de la identidad de los trabajadores y trabajadoras. La reconstrucción de este proceso asociativo se realizó a partir de fuentes secundarias, prensa local y un numeroso conjunto de textos basados en testimonios, observándose que las numerosas y diversas organizaciones que se crearon en el Cerro nutrieron las experiencias y repertorios de sus vecinas, vecinos, trabajadores y trabajadoras, aportando en forma significativa a la formación de su identidad.
