This article aims to make a contribution to the understanding of the notion of "life" in the ancient Israel. This issue is explored from various angles. A first moment focuses on life and its concreteness in Adam as a living being par excellence. A second moment investigates the meaning of life as an accomplishment in this present world and the community of Israel. These themes predispose to the conception of God as author of life and as the one who is truly alive. After all, and as Psalm 146.2 puts it, life is to be celebrated as a gift: “I’ll praise the Lord with my life”.El presente artículo busca hacer una contribución a la comprensión de la noción de la vida en elantiguo Israel. Esta temática es enfocada desde diversos ángulos. Un primer momento se centra enla vida y su concreción en el Adán como ser viviente por excelencia. Un segundo momentoinvestiga la temática relativa al sentido de la vida como una realización en este mundo presente y lacomunidad de Israel. Estos temas predisponen a la concepción de Dios como autor de la vida ycomo el viviente por antonomasia. A fin de cuentas, y tal como lo expresa el Salmo 146, 2, la vida ha de ser celebrada como un don: "alabare al Señor con mi vida".
