| dc.description | In the periphery of the Spanish empire, a poor territory with an unsubmissive indigenous frontier, the building of Chile’s colonial society was structured along a series of assumptions and realities, among which war and consequently the omnipresence of a military spirit were noteworthy. This factor would be trascendental for the configuration of local elites in terms of its prestige and its aristocratic imagery. In addition, the steps through which it was customary to ascend to the pinnacle of the peripheral “nobility” of Santiago de Chile included landownership, encomiendas — both substantial ingredients of the imagery of and support for neo-feudal culture in Hispanic American colonies — appointments to public office within the State apparatus and the municipal Cabildo. In this context we’ll explore scenarios, pretensions, decisions and accomplishments that sowed the life trajectories of three people that headed consecutive generations of the Erazo family in the span of a century. | en |
| dc.description | En la periferia del imperio español, un territorio pobre y con una frontera indígena insumisa, la construcción de la sociedad colonial chilena se estructuró a partir de una serie de premisas yrealidades entre las que destacaba la guerra y la consiguiente omnipresencia de un espíritu militar.Este factor será trascendente a la hora de configurar las élites locales, en términos de su prestigio yde su imaginario aristocrático. Junto con ello, los escalones por los cuales se ascendía al pináculo dela "nobleza" periférica de Santiago de Chile incluían la obtención de tierras y de encomiendas deindígenas –alimento sustancial del imaginario y del sustento laboral en la cultura neofeudal de lascolonias hispanoamericanas–, y la obtención de cargos públicos en instancias estatales y en elCabildo municipal. En este contexto, exploraremos los escenarios, pretensiones, decisiones y logrosque fueron sembrando el recorrido vital de tres personas que encabezaron sucesivas generaciones dela familia Erazo a lo largo de un siglo. | es |
