dc.descriptionWe propose to understand and analyze the perspectives and strategies on the poor and poverty that are presented today in the Catholic Church (CI). We take a historical tour and focus on the diocese of Merlo-Moreno (Buenos Aires suburbs), an area that has high poverty rates and a background of religious specialists linked to various pastoral theological perspectives. We consider poverty as a social construction in which actors with different positions and types of power participate, including the CI and the State. Actors that are interrelated, that link the religious and the political and that intervene on the problem with actions and programs. The territory is the space where this takes place and in which the specialists and agents are relevant. From the interpretive paradigm we carried out, between 2017 and 2020, an exploratory study in which we conducted twenty-three in-depth interviews with CI specialists and territorial agents. We also analyzed documents and publications from the diocese and from Pope Francis. We point out, as a result of the work, that in this diocese different Catholicisms coexist, weakening the "option for the poor", strengthening the "concern for the poor" and the links with the State.en-US
dc.descriptionNos proponemos comprender y analizar las perspectivas y estrategias sobre los/as pobres y la pobreza que se presentan hoy en la Iglesia católica (IC). Hacemos un recorrido histórico y nos centramos en la diócesis de Merlo-Moreno (conurbano bonaerense), zona que cuenta con elevados índices de pobreza y con antecedentes de especialistas religiosos vinculados con diversas perspectivas teológicas pastorales. Consideramos la pobreza como construcción social en la que participan actores con diferentes posicionamientos y tipos de poder, entre ellos la IC y el Estado. Actores que se interrelacionan, que vinculan lo religioso y lo político y que intervienen sobre la problemática con acciones y programas. El territorio es el espacio donde esto se concreta y en el que son relevantes los especialistas y agentes. Desde el paradigma interpretativo llevamos adelante, entre 2017 y 2020, un estudio exploratorio en el que realizamos veintitrés entrevistas en profundidad a especialistas de la IC y a agentes territoriales. Analizamos también documentos y publicaciones de la diócesis y del papa Francisco. Señalamos, como resultado del trabajo, que en esta diócesis conviven diferentes catolicismos, debilitándose la “opción por los pobres”, fortaleciéndose la “preocupación por los pobres” y los vínculos con el Estado.es-ES
