This article presents a state of the art on gender studies in the field of research on Afro-descendants. Its central objective is to offer a genealogy of the intersectional perspective in Afro-descendant studies in Chile. In particular, it discusses feminist reflections in social research on the Afro-Chilean movement in the north and Afro-descendant migration in the country. It also highlights the prominence that the category has acquired in recent years, concluding that, in a context of entrenched social inequalities, gender and the intersectional perspective become a crucial theoretical device for the study of phenomena related to Afro-descendants.  El presente artículo expone un estado del arte sobre los estudios de género en el campo de investigaciones sobre afrodescendencia. El objetivo central es estableces una genealogía sobre la perspectiva interseccional en los estudios afrodescendientes en Chile. Particularmente se discuten las reflexiones feministas en la investigación social sobre el movimiento afrochileno en el norte y la migración afrodescendiente en el país. Asimismo, se destaca el protagonismo que la categoría ha adquirido en los últimos años, concluyendo que, en un contexto de asentadas desigualdades sociales, el género y la perspectiva interseccional se vuelven un dispositivo teórico crucial para el estudio de los fenómenos en torno a la afrodescendencia.
