dc.description	This article analyzes the paradigm of civil society in the context of deconfigured democracies. The new realities of the political system challenge many assumptions of civil society theory since the concept became a cornerstone of a critical theory of democratization that challenged the dominant paradigm of democratic elitism. This understanding of civil society makes reevaluating the purely electoral understanding of democracy, incorporating the former as a substantial element for the functioning and legitimation of its institutions. In this context, some developments of this theory are described to explore to what extent the proposed understanding of civil society and the public sphere remains valid or requires substantive revision.	en-US
dc.description	El presente artículo analiza el paradigma de la sociedad civil en el contexto de democracias desconfiguradas. Las nuevas realidades del sistema político desafían muchos supuestos de la teoría de la sociedad civil desde que el concepto se convirtió en piedra angular de una teoría crítica de la democratización que desafió el paradigma dominante del elitismo democrático. Esta comprensión de la sociedad civil obligó a reevaluar la visión meramente electoral de la democracia y enfatizar el papel crucial que la misma cumple en el funcionamiento y legitimación de sus instituciones. En este contexto se describen algunos desarrollos de dicha teoría para indagar en qué medida el modelo propuesto de la sociedad civil y de esfera pública se mantiene vigente o necesita una revisión sustantiva.	es-ES
