The research that will be developed throughout this text will seek, through a theoretical comparison between the historical processes of the Raramuri indigenous communities in Mexico and the Mapuche communities settled in the Araucanía of Chile and, from the perspective of Niklas Luhmann's systems logic, to investigate the possible causes that sustain the differences and similarities in terms of the formation and use of different repertoires and forms of protest in relation to the issues of indigenous representation and political participation. In the background will be those protests that refer to the issue of cultural identity as a central element that gives shape to the constitution of the “indigenous subject” as a political actor. In this sense, the research will find out about the existence of a relationship between the choice of forms through which the protest is structured and the themes that give content to it. Thus, the research presented here revolves around the possible answers to the questions: What are the possible reasons that have led the Rarámuri and the Mapuche to take the path of respect for the human rights of the original cultures and peoples in order to achieve political representation and participation within the democratic state system?, and; What are the possible causes that encourage both indigenous groups to privilege certain forms through which to manifest their protest?La investigación que se desarrollará a lo largo del presente texto buscará, a través de una comparación a nivel teórico entre los procesos históricos de las comunidades indígenas rarámuris en México y las comunidades mapuches asentadas en la Araucanía de Chile y, bajo la perspectiva de la lógica de sistemas de Niklas Luhmann, indagar sobre las posibles causas que dan sustento a las diferencias y similitudes en cuanto la formación y uso de distintos repertorios y formas de protesta con relación a los temas de representación y participación política indígena. En un segundo plano se abordarán aquellas protestas referidas al tema de la identidad cultural como elemento central que da cuerpo a la constitución del “sujeto indígena” como actor político. En este sentido, la investigación averiguará acerca de la existencia de una relación entre la elección de las formas a través de las cuales se estructura la protesta y los temas que dan contenido a ésta. Así, la investigación aquí planteada gira en torno a las posibles respuestas a las preguntas: ¿Cuáles son las posibles razones que han conducido a los rarámuris y a los mapuches a dirigirse por las vías del respeto de los derechos humanos de las culturas y pueblos originarios para el logro de la representación y participación política al interior del sistema democrático estatal?, y; ¿Cuáles son las posibles causas que incentivan a ambos grupos indígenas a privilegiar ciertas formas a través de las cuales manifestar la protesta?
