The study of tourism in the second half of the twentieth century focuses on systemic thinking, exposing it as a structure composed of different components that interact with each other and allow it to be explained from the social field. Niklas Luhmann's Functional Systems Theory enables the analysis of tourism as a form of structural coupling between the different functional systems that make up the societal system, to which are added emerging situations such as the pandemic derived from covid-19; therefore, it is established that the function that tourism and pandemic fulfill within society, falls in the form of a means of structural and operational coupling between functional systems. Derived from the second-order observation based on a documentary review, the emergence of emerging forms of communication related to tourism from the economic, political and medical systems is shown. Trends such as virtual tours from the internet of things, eco-friendly tourism, slow travel, bleisure travel, among others, make manifest the importance that emerging events such as the most recent pandemic, maintain in the reconfiguration of the tourism sector in the so-called new normality.El estudio del turismo en la segunda mitad del siglo XX se centra en el pensamiento sistémico, exponiéndolo como una estructura compuesta por diferentes componentes que interactúan entre sí y permiten explicarlo desde el campo social. La Teoría de Sistemas Funcionales de Niklas Luhmann, posibilita el análisis del turismo como una forma de acoplamiento estructural entre los diferentes sistemas funcionales que conforman el sistema societal, al que se le suman situaciones emergentes como la pandemia derivada del covid-19; por ello, se establece que la función que el turismo y pandemia cumplen al interior de la sociedad, recae en la forma de un medio de acoplamiento estructural y operativo entre sistemas funcionales. Derivado de la observación de segundo orden a partir de una revisión documental, se da cuenta del surgimiento de formas emergentes de comunicación referidas al turismo desde los sistemas económico, político y medicina. Tendencias como los recorridos virtuales desde el internet de las cosas, el turismo eco friendly, slow travel, bleisure travel entre otros, hacen manifiesta la importancia que eventos emergentes como la más reciente pandemia, mantiene en la reconfiguración del sector turismo en la llamada nueva normalidad.
