This article refers to how educational policies in Chile have sought to establish quality in education, responding to economic interests, rather than to the integral development of students, therefore, it is proposed to analyze the implications of the restrictive, undemocratic and representative vision of the concept of quality that they have coined in recent times. After a literature review, the historical-political context in which the concept of quality is configured is presented. In addition, to analyze key concepts such as: Education as a right, role of the State in education, quality of education and the SAC law. Finally, it is concluded that there is no consensus between what the neoliberal system and educational reality propose as Quality in Education, this being still a pending issue.El presente artículo se refiere a cómo las políticas educacionales en Chile han buscado establecer la calidad en la educación, respondiendo a intereses de corte económico, más que al desarrollo integral de las y los estudiantes, por tanto, se propone analizar las implicancias de la visión restrictiva, poco democrática y representativa del concepto de calidad que han acuñado en los últimos tiempos. Tras una revisión bibliográfica, se presenta el contexto histórico- político en el cual se configura el concepto de calidad. Además, de analizar conceptos claves tales como: Educación como derecho, rol del Estado en educación, calidad de la educación y la ley SAC. Finalmente, se llega a la conclusión que no existe consenso entre lo que el sistema neoliberal y realidad educativa proponen como Calidad en Educación, siendo este aún un tema pendiente.
