The use of antibiotics is one of the main tools for the therapeutic management of most infections of bacterial origin. It is excessive and unnecessary use can cause damage to both public and individual health. The work that we present part of the research carried out in a health area with a population of about 84 thousand inhabitants. The main objective was to analyze the use of antibiotic drugs in our health area, global consumption and the consumption according to the type of antibiotic. Secondary objective was to compare the results obtained with the results reflected at the national level. Data were obtained through an electronic medical prescription billing software and the dose per inhabitant per day (DHD) measurement variable was used. The results showed that in our health area a lower use of antibiotics is observed in comparison with the data available nationwide, average consumption of antibiotics in Spain in the outpatient setting in 2017 was 16.13 DHD versus 15.22 DHD in our areaLa utilización de antibióticos constituye una de las principales herramientas para el manejo terapéutico de la mayoría de las infecciones de origen bacteriano. Su utilización excesiva e innecesaria puede conllevar un perjuicio tanto para la salud pública como individual. El trabajo que se presenta parte de la investigación realizada en un área de salud con una población de unos 84 mil habitantes. El objetivo principal fue analizar el uso de los medicamentos antibióticos en nuestra área sanitaria, tanto en el consumo global como en el consumo según el tipo o subgrupo de antibiótico y como objetivo secundario comparar los resultados obtenidos con los resultados reflejados a nivel nacional. Se obtuvieron los datos mediante un programa informático de facturación de receta médica electrónica y se utilizó la variable de medida dosis por habitante día (DHD). Los resultados mostraron que en nuestra área de salud se observa una utilización menor de antibióticos en comparación con los datos disponibles a nivel nacional, consumo medio de antibióticos en España en el ámbito extrahospitalario en el año 2017 fue de 16.13 DHD frente a 15.22 DHD en nuestra área
