dc.descriptionThe institutional centrality of the army helps us understand the Nation-State buildingprocess in nineteenth century Latin America. This text addresses its institutionalizationprocess through liberal-republican government policies, aimed at turning it into anobedient and non-deliberative entity, stripped of its capacity for rebellion, which wouldbe ceded to civil initiative. This analysis of the military in terms of armed citizenshipis projected in a little examined historical decade such as the Bolivian 1840s; it is donewith the aim of highlighting the capacity for political and social transformation of legislation,through the study of Bolivia’s post-Confederate restoration.en-US
