This research analyses two cases: the actions of the lawyers Pedro José Agrelo and Gregorio Tagle, who remained in political leadership in Río de la Plata, despite the crisis of central power in 1820. From opposing positions, both intervened publicly and acted as referents of their respective spaces. Through the analysis of their practices and discourses, the aim is to provide knowledge about the role of these scholars in the period in question, the functioning of the socio-political networks that supported them and the particularities of their actions in the context of the war and the crisis of institutionalism in the territory. For this purpose, the sources used are the libels and manifestos of the time, together with government documents and the unpublished memoirs of Pedro José Agrelo, preserved in the General Archive of the Argentine Nation.La presente investigación analiza dos casos particulares: el actuar de los letrados Pedro José Agrelo y Gregorio Tagle, que permanecieron en la dirigencia política en Río de la Plata, pese a la crisis del poder central sufrida en 1820. Desde posiciones enfrentadas, ambos intervinieron de manera pública y actuaron como referentes de sus respectivos espacios. A través del análisis de sus prácticas y discursos, se buscará aportar conocimiento sobre el rol de estos letrados en el período en cuestión, el funcionamiento de las redes sociopolíticas que los sostenían y las particularidades de sus actuaciones en el marco de la guerra y la crisis de  institucionalidad del territorio. Para lo anterior, se tomarán como fuentes los libelos y manifiestos del momento, junto con documentos de gobierno y las memorias inéditas de Pedro José Agrelo, conservadas en el Archivo General de la Nación Argentina.
