dc.descriptionThe participation of two Chilean deputies in the Cortes of Cádiz are perceived very differently. Joaquín Fernández de Leiva for his intense involvement and Miguel Riesco for his limited one. But their actions, some of them carried out jointly, cannot be restricted to that Parliament exclusively. Considering this analytic approach, and based on documentary sources preserved in institutions in Spain and Chile, both administrative and private, this article delves into the time before they served as substitute deputies, from the circumstances of the trip to Cádiz and the first actions upon arrival in the Peninsula to the election process that led them to form part of the Cortes.en-US
dc.descriptionLa participación de los dos diputados por Chile en las Cortes de Cádiz ha sido valorada de manera muy diferente. De Joaquín Fernández de Leiva se viene destacando su intensa actividad, mientras que de Miguel Riesco se han puesto de relevancia sus limitadas intervenciones. Sin embargo, sus actuaciones, muchas de ellas realizadas de forma conjunta, no se restringieron al ámbito exclusivo de aquella cámara. Considerando este enfoque de análisis, y partiendo de fuentes documentales conservadas en instituciones de España y Chile, tanto de naturaleza administrativa como privada, este artículo se adentra en el tiempo anterior a su desempeño como diputados suplentes, desde las circunstancias del viaje a Cádiz y las primeras acciones a la llegada a la Península, hasta el proceso de elección que los llevó a formar parte de las Cortes.es-ES
