dc.descriptionThe article examines the impact of the Spanish-South American War (1865-1871) on the transatlantic imaginaries of the Spanish Monarchy through the exegesis of La Perla de Lima, a novel written by the Spanish writer Fernando Fulgosio and published in 1869. Specifically, we analyse two ideological vectors that run through the work: pan-Hispanism with racist connotations and navalism. Our study situates the novel in its socio-political and argumentative context, scrutinising discourses in the press, historiography, essays, parliamentary speeches and ministerial documents. The text helps shed light on the role played by the South American republics of the Pacific in forging contemporary Spain's imperial consciousness and national identities.en-US
dc.descriptionEl artículo examina el impacto de la guerra hispano-sudamericana (1865-1871) en los imaginarios transatlánticos de la monarquía española mediante la exégesis de La Perla de Lima, una novela escrita por el literato español Fernando Fulgosio y publicada en 1869. En concreto, analizamos dos vectores ideológicos que recorren la obra: el panhispanismo de connotaciones racistas y el navalismo. Nuestro estudio sitúa a la novela en su contexto sociopolítico y argumentativo, escrutando un conjunto de discursos que aparecieron en la prensa, la historiografía, la ensayística, las alocuciones parlamentarias y los documentos ministeriales. El texto contribuye a esclarecer el rol que tuvieron las repúblicas americanas del Pacífico en la forja de la conciencia imperial y las identidades de nación de la España contemporánea.es-ES
