El artículo realiza un análisis de la novela Las bestias (2006), del escritor cubano Ronaldo Menéndez. El trabajo explora el problema ontológico de la condición humana; en específico, los límites de dicha condición en relación con la degradación moral, física y sicológica de los personajes. El objetivo principal consiste en explicar el proceso involutivo del ser humano en el universo diegético de la obra, con énfasis en la influencia del contexto histórico de enunciación y desarrollo de la trama; en este caso, la crisis económica y social en Cuba durante la década de 1990, conocida oficialmente como Período Especial en Tiempos de Paz. En relación a la condición humana, el artículo adopta un marco teórico sustentado en las premisas de Hannah Arendt y Giorgio Agamben. This article carries out a literary analysis of the novel Las bestias (2006), by the Cuban writer Ronaldo Menéndez. The work explores the ontological problem of the human condition, specifically the limits of that condition regarding the moral, physical and psychological degradation of the characters. The main objective consists in explaining the evolutionary process of the human being in the diegetic universe of the novel, with emphasis on the influence of the historic context of enunciation and development of the plot; in this case, the economic and social crisis in Cuba during the 1990s, officially known as the Special Period in Times of Peace. In relation to the human condition, the article adopts a theoretical framework based on the premises of Hannah Arendt and Giorgio Agamben.
