The War of reform in Mexico (1858-1861) divided the country in relation to the permanence or derogation of ecclesiastical privileges, among other aspects. In this context, both the military forces, Liberals and Conservatives to bandists who, on the one hand defended a political ideology and, on the other hand, took advantage of the mobilization to commit their misdeeds. This last aspect was emphasized by the adversaries to discredit and subtract credibility among the population. In this study we analyze how the liberals counted on military leaders who by a series of characteristics came close to being known as political bandits, with the purpose of confronting and annulling the presence of the conservatives in the southeast region of the present state of Hidalgo; so that the political motives were confused with actions of banditry.La Guerra de Reforma en México (1858-1861) dividió al país en relación a la permanencia o derogación de los privilegios eclesiásticos, entre otros aspectos. En este contexto, tanto las fuerzas militares de los liberales como de los conservadores recurrieron a bandoleros que, por un lado, defendían una ideología política y, por otro, aprovecharon la movilización para cometer sus fechorías. Este último aspecto lo resaltaban los adversarios para desprestigiarse y restar credibilidad entre la población. En este estudio se analiza cómo los liberales contaron con jefes militares que por una serie de características se acercaban a ser connotados como bandidos políticos, con la finalidad de enfrentar y anular la presencia de los conservadores en la región sureste del actual estado de Hidalgo; de tal forma que los móviles políticos se confundían con acciones de bandidaje.
