dc.descriptionThe primary goal of this paper is to delve into the promotion mechanisms in force among the main government posts in the Spanish Italy during the reign of Philip IV (1621-1665). At this juncture, we will focus our attention on the similarities and differences between the varied political trajectories of the viceroys and governors of Naples, Sicily, and Milan, with a view to verifying the existence of an interconnected cursus honorum between these centres of power. Additionally, it will also be necessary to mention the legation in the Apostolic See, whose ambassadors acquired a knowledge of the Italian political chessboard which, as we shall see, made them suitable to take charge of the government of the Hispanic viceroyalties.en-US
dc.descriptionEl objetivo del siguiente artículo es ahondar en los mecanismos de promoción vigentes entre los principales cargos de gobierno de la Italia española durante el reinado de Felipe IV (1621-1665). En este contexto, centraremos nuestra atención en las similitudes y diferencias entre las variadas trayectorias políticas de los virreyes y gobernadores de Nápoles, Sicilia y Milán, con vistas a verificar la existencia de un cursus honorum ‘intervirreinal’ entre estos centros de poder. Junto a ellos, será necesario traer a colación la legación en la Sede Apostólica, cuyos embajadores adquirieron a lo largo de sus misiones un conocimiento del tablero político italiano que, como veremos, los hizo idóneos para promocionar posteriormente al gobierno de los virreinatos hispanos.es-ES
