dc.descriptionThe article aims to analyze the emergence of the needs of the inhabitants of the urban periphery of Santiago in the administrative and technical responses of the program for the construction of the "Chile Nuevo," implemented during the first term of Carlos Ibáñez del Campo (1927-1931). This is done through the analysis of two historical observation perspectives: a) the legitimization of demands for urbanization by plebeian populations, through a proposal for modernization and supervision of public services led by the municipality, and b) the inclusion of the suburbs in the transformation proposal for Santiago developed by Viennese architect Karl Brunner, hired by the government, whose preliminary design included a metropolitan circulation network, thus responding to one of the most deeply felt demands of urban popular sectors, which was access to more and better collective transportation. To achieve this, a set of sources was analyzed, including municipal bulletins, official press, and urban planning texts.en-US
dc.descriptionEl artículo tiene como objetivo analizar la emergencia de las necesidades de las y los habitantes de la periferia urbana de Santiago en las repuestas administrativas y técnicas del programa para la construcción del “Chile Nuevo”, implementado bajo el primer mandato de Carlos Ibáñez del Campo (1927-1931). Esto a través del análisis de dos planos de observación histórica: a) la legitimación de las demandas por urbanización de las poblaciones plebeyas, a través de una propuesta de modernización y fiscalización de los servicios públicos dirigida por los municipios, b) la inclusión de los suburbios en el plan de transformación de la capital elaborada por el arquitecto vienés Karl Brunner, contratado por el gobierno y cuyo prediseño contempló una red de circulación metropolitana, respondiendo así a una de las demandas más sentidas de los sectores populares urbanos como era el acceso a más y mejor movilización colectiva. Para ello se analizó un conjunto de fuentes entre las que se incluyen boletines municipales, prensa oficialista y textos urbanísticos.es-ES
