dc.descriptionIn 1570, the Holy Office of the Inquisition was established in the New World. Given the vast jurisdictional territories of each tribunal, it was decided that each episcopal see and seaport would appoint commissioners and other officials to form local commissariats. The role of these commissioners, delegated by the inquisitors to local areas, was not limited to religious control; they also contributed to the territorialization of royal power. This article argues that the Holy Office functioned as a governing institution within the intricate network of authorities of the Spanish Monarchy. Through the actions of its commissioners -in this case, in the district of Lima- it played a central role in the territorialization of royal power. en-US
dc.descriptionEn 1570 se dispuso organizar en el Nuevo Mundo el Santo Oficio de la Inquisición. Dado el extenso territorio jurisdiccional asignado a cada tribunal, se estableció que en cada sede episcopal y puerto de mar se contara con comisarios y otros oficiales, conformando así las comisarías. El rol de los comisarios, delegados de los inquisidores en los espacios locales, no se limitó al control religioso: también coadyuvaron a la territorialización del poder regio. Este artículo sostiene que el Santo Oficio constituyó un órgano de gobierno dentro de la compleja red de autoridades de la Monarquía Hispánica, y que, mediante la acción de los comisarios -en particular en el distrito de Lima-, contribuyó a territorializar el poder regio.es-ES
