In this article, I argue that the unconventional narrative so characteristic of Guaman Poma is largely due to the way he read, apprehended, and interpreted the bibliographic universe available to him. It is a synthesis forged from a basic and incomplete literacy, shaped within a colonial and rural horizon, which developed in Guaman Poma silences and narrative displacements not present in the canon of others chroniclers. This article has three main objectives. The first is to identify, based on previous studies and new evidence, the manuscripts and prints underlying the narrative of the Nueva Corónica. The second is to delve into Guaman Poma's reading code and authorial intention. Finally, the third objective is to compare Guaman Poma's reading code with other individuals who, like him, came from ethnic or rural groups unfamiliar with reading and writing.En el presente artículo planteo que la narrativa poco convencional tan característica de Guaman Poma se debe, en gran parte, a la forma en que leyó, aprehendió e interpretó el universo bibliográfico que tuvo a su disposición. Se trata de una síntesis forjada a partir de una alfabetización básica e incompleta, fraguada en un horizonte colonial y rural que potenció en Guaman Poma silencios y desplazamientos narrativos que no están presentes en el canon de otros cronistas. Tres son los objetivos detrás de esta investigación. El primero consiste en identificar, a partir de estudios previos y de nuevos antecedentes, los manuscritos e impresos que subyacen a la narrativa de la Nueva corónica. El segundo es profundizar en el código de lectura y en la voluntad autoral de Guaman Poma. Finalmente, el tercer objetivo es comparar el código de lectura de Guaman Poma con otros sujetos que, como él, provenían de grupos étnicos o rurales que no estaban familiarizados con la lectura y escritura.
