dc.descriptionThis work intends to be a contribution to the biography of the Monument to the Writers of Independence through a cartography of its appearances in ‘intentional’ and ‘unintentional’ registers. Our objective is not to propose a definitive biography of the monument, but to make relevant the political assemblages in which it was present and which haven’t been compiled in a same story.We begin by challenging the literature that situates the beginning of heritage conservation in Chile by focusing on legal measures, beginning in the year 1925, while ignoring earlier conservation practices. The monument’s trajectory previous to 1925 accounts for practices that complicate said legal-centered periodization. We present the trajectory of the monument through two approaches: as chroniclers, narrating its life in timeline terms, and as historians, analyzing key milestones of its development by questioning their causes. Finally, we examine constitutive elements of our narrative to speculate on the reasons for its decade in ruins.This approach reveals how the monument operates across different registers of reality and demonstrates that conservation history contains layers of projects, efforts, and abandonments that contextualize the formal beginning of its legal protection.en-US
dc.descriptionEste trabajo se propone aportar a la biografía del Monumento a los Escritores de la Independencia mediante una cartografía de sus apariciones en registros “intencionales” y “no intencionales”. Nuestro objetivo no es proponer una biografía definitiva sobre él, sino tematizar y dar relevancia a los agenciamientos políticos en que tuvo presencia y que no han sido todavía puestos en un mismo relato.Comenzaremos por cuestionar la literatura que sitúa el inicio de la conservación patrimonial en Chile centrándose en las medidas legales, cuyo comienzo data del año 1925, ignorando prácticas de conservación anteriores. La trayectoria del Monumento a los Escritores de la Independencia previa a 1925 da cuenta de prácticas que problematizan a las periodizaciones centrada en lo legal. Presentaremos la vida de este monumento desde dos enfoques: como cronistas, narrando su vida en términos de línea temporal, y como historiadores, analizando los hitos clave de su desarrollo preguntándonos por su por qué. Por último, examinaremos elementos constitutivos de nuestro relato para especular sobre las razones de su década en ruinas.Este enfoque revela cómo el monumento opera en diferentes registros de la realidad y demuestra que la historia de conservación contiene capas de proyectos, esfuerzos y abandonos que contextualizan el inicio formal de su protección legal.es-ES
