dc.descriptionThis article deals with two pieces of Searle’s unfinished puzzle of social ontology: trust and distrust of institutions. In the first section, I examine the normative character of Searle’s social ontology, which emphasizes concepts such as collective intentionality, status functions, institutions and, especially, deontic powers. In the second section, I show that, given the normative character of such an ontology, Searle does not explain the social phenomenon of trust in institutions. In the third section, I show how the collective recognition of institutions turns out to be problematic. In the fourth and final section, I analyze how the absence of collective recognition allows the explanation of the crisis of trust in institutions. I conclude that a complete theory of social reality must include trust and distrust of institutions, unlike what Searle does with his puzzle of social ontology.en-US
dc.descriptionEste artículo trata con dos piezas de un puzle inconcluso de la ontología social de John Searle: la confianza y la desconfianza en las instituciones. En la primera sección expongo el carácter normativo de la ontología social serleana, con énfasis en la intencionalidad colectiva, las funciones de estatus, las instituciones y, especialmente, en los poderes deónticos. En la segunda sección muestro que, dado ese carácter normativo, Searle no explica el fenómeno social de la confianza en las instituciones. En la tercera sección muestro cómo el reconocimiento colectivo de las instituciones resulta problemático. En la cuarta sección y final abordo por qué la ausencia de reconocimiento colectivo permite explicar la crisis de confianza en las instituciones serleanas. Se concluye que una teoría completa de la realidad social debe incluir en su explicación la confianza y la desconfianza en las instituciones, a diferencia de lo que hace Searle con el puzle de su ontología social.es-ES
