In this paper we study exclamatory constructions introduced by si followed by a future or conditional verb, of the type ¡si será animal!, in which the extreme degree of a magnitude or quality is highlighted, and the existence alongside them of another variant which also highlights the extreme degree of a magnitude or quality without the presence of the head si (¡será animal!). We differentiate a series of constructions which, although they have a common emphasizing character, appear in different contexts and present different pragmatic values. We also carry out a historical study which shows that these constructions, typical of the language of proximity, are modern, dating back to the 18th century, but they are not clearly consolidated until the 19th century. Exclamative emphasizing constructions with si seem to have appeared earlier and are present throughout the Hispanic domain, while exclamative emphasizing constructions without an introductory si, less frequent in the 19th century, have become widespread in the 20th century in European Spanish, but are practically unknown in American Spanish.Estudiamos en este trabajo las construcciones exclamativas introducidas por si con el verbo en futuro o condicional, del tipo ¡si será animal! en las que se pondera el grado extremo de una magnitud o cualidad y la existencia, junto a ellas, de otra variante que igualmente pondera el grado extremo de una magnitud o cualidad sin la presencia del si encabezador (¡será animal!). Diferenciamos una serie de construcciones que, aunque tienen en común el carácter ponderativo, aparecen en distintos contextos y presentan distintos valores pragmáticos. Realizamos también un estudio histórico que muestra que estas construcciones, propias del lenguaje de la proximidad, son modernas, apuntan en el siglo xviii, pero no están claramente consolidadas hasta el xix. Las construcciones exclamativas ponderativas con si parecen anteriores y están presentes en todo el dominio hispánico, en tanto que las exclamativas ponderativas sin si introductor, menos frecuentes en el xix, se han extendido en el siglo xx en el español europeo, pero son prácticamente desconocidas en el español americano.
