dc.descriptionThis article examines the relationships between multilingualism, translation, and the intersection between politics and language through the analysis of the most recent fictional works published by South African writer J. Coetzee in Argentina. From a perspective that articulates multilingualism and translation in cultural and political terms, we propose an analysis of Coetzee’s case, focusing on his strategic decision to publish his latest novels in Spanish, through Argentine translators and publishing houses. This editorial shift away from traditional publishing centres in favour of others located in the South reveals not only a reconfiguration of literary circulation circuits, but also an ideological gesture that challenges the usual hierarchy among languages and publishing markets. The study is structured in four sections: first, we contextualize the author’s figure and his editorial decision; second, we examine the intercultural phenomenon of multilingualism; third, we address translation as a cultural operation; and finally, we analyze the publication process of Coetzee’s recent works from a glottopolitical perspective, paying close attention to the author’s varied interventions regarding Spanish as the first language of circulation of his fiction and the consequent reordering of the symbolic status attributed to English.en-US
dc.descriptionEl presente artículo examina las relaciones entre multilingüismo, traducción y glotopolítica a partir del análisis de las más recientes ficciones publicadas por el escritor sudafricano John Coetzee en Argentina. Por medio de una perspectiva que articula multilingüismo y traducción como prácticas atravesadas por dimensiones culturales y políticas, proponemos analizar el caso de Coetzee, quien en una decisión estratégica eligió publicar sus últimas novelas en español, de la mano de traductoras y sellos editoriales argentinos. Este desplazamiento editorial de los centros tradicionales de publicación en favor de otros provenientes del hemisferio sur pone en evidencia no solo una reconfiguración de las dinámicas de circulación literaria, sino también un gesto ideológico que interpela las jerarquías históricamente establecidas entre lenguas y mercados editoriales. El análisis se organiza en cuatro etapas: primero, se contextualiza la figura del autor y su decisión editorial; luego, se examina el multilingüismo como fenómeno intercultural; en tercer lugar, se aborda la traducción como operación cultural; y por último, se examina el proceso de publicación desde una perspectiva glotopolítica, atendiendo a las intervenciones del autor en relación con la elección del español como lengua principal de circulación de sus ficciones y al consecuente reordenamiento del estatus simbólico atribuido al inglés.es-ES
