Cognitivism or Information Processing Theory has been constituted as the dominant paradigm in the field of the Psychology. Following Kuhn, when the paradigms dominate a field of discipline they don't explicit their theoretical ontological and epistemological suppositions, imposing itself as THE WAY of understanding a certain area and/or study object that in the case of Psychology is the Self. Indeed the models of the self not only determine how it will be understood but rather also how one will intervene on it. This article in fact analyzes the model of self that Cognitivism sustains and that it is at the base of all its concepts and technological translations, exposing how the model was constructed and how it gradually became the dominant model. It also approaches the main critics to the model that shows their fissures, critics that have determined the appearance of alternative models that today marks the theoretical (and also professional) discussion in the field of Psycholog    El Cognitivismo o Teoría del Procesamiento de la Información se ha constituido en el paradigma dominante en el campo de la Psicología. Siguiendo a Kuhn, cuando los paradigmas dominan un campo disciplinar no explicitan sus supuestos teóricos ontológicos y epistemológicos, imponiéndose como EL MODO de entender una determinada área y/u objeto de estudio, que en el caso de la Psicología es el Sujeto. Efectivamente los modelos de sujeto determinan no sólo cómo se le comprenderá sino que también cómo se intervendrá sobre él. Este artículo analiza precisamente el modelo de sujeto que sustenta el Cognitivismo y que está a la base de todos sus conceptos y traducciones tecnológicas, exponiendo cómo se fue construyendo el modelo y cómo paulatinamente fue constituyéndose en el modelo dominante. Además se abordan las principales críticas al modelo que muestran sus fisuras, críticas que han determinado la emergencia de modelos alternativos que hoy marcan la discusión teórica (y también profesional) en el campo de la Psicología.
