| dc.description | The author states he wants to defend society and its inhabitants from all kinds of ideologies, including science. He argues that although science has been at the forefront of the struggle against authoritarianism and superstition, this was the work of the science of the seventeenth and eighteenth centuries, but not of today. This is exemplified by the role science plays in today’s education. The scientific 'facts' are taught at a very early age in the same way religious 'facts' were taught only a century ago. There is no attempt to arouse the student's critical skills so he can see things in perspective. In universities the situation is even worse. | en-US |
| dc.description | El autor declara desear defender a la sociedad y a sus habitantes de toda clase de ideologías, incluyendo la ciencia. Argumenta que aunque la ciencia, ha estado en la avanzada de la lucha contra el autoritarismo y la superstición. Ello fue obra de la ciencia de los siglos XVII y XVIII, pero no la actual. Ejemplifica con el rol que la ciencia juega hoy en la educación. Los ‘hechos’ científicos son enseñados en una edad muy temprana en la misma forma en que los ‘hechos’ religiosos lo eran sólo hace un siglo. No se hace ningún intento de despertar las capacidades críticas del estudiante de modo que pueda ver las cosas en perspectiva. En las universidades la situación sería incluso peor. | es-ES |
