This text presents an interview with Lelio Mármora, a leading figure in migration studies in South America, conducted in 2019 in a regional and international context marked by intense debates on migration governance. The conversation is situated at a pivotal historical moment that enables a retrospective view of the region: the adoption of the Global Compact for Safe, Orderly and Regular Migration, the emergence of new regional mechanisms of cooperation in response to Venezuelan migration, and the reconfiguration of national migration policies, particularly in Argentina and Chile. From a historical and comparative perspective, the interview revisits trajectories, concepts, and processes that help us understand recent shifts in the ways migration is conceived, the role of the State, and the normative frameworks that regulate human mobility from a regional and long-term perspective. Within this framework, the interview invites reflection on the relationship between international law and local migration policies, emphasizing the history of regional cooperation on human mobility in South America.Este texto presenta una entrevista a Lelio Mármora, referente central de los estudios migratorios en América del Sur, realizada en 2019, en un contexto regional e internacional marcado por intensos debates sobre gobernanza migratoria. La conversación se inscribe en un momento clave que nos permite ver la región en retrospectiva: la adopción del Pacto Mundial para la Migración, la emergencia de nuevos mecanismos regionales de cooperación frente a la migración venezolana y la reconfiguración de las políticas migratorias nacionales, particularmente en Argentina y Chile. Desde una perspectiva histórica y comparada, la entrevista recupera trayectorias, conceptos y procesos que permiten comprender los desplazamientos recientes en las formas de concebir la migración, el rol del Estado y los marcos normativos que regulan la movilidad humana desde una perspectiva regional y de largo plazo.
