| dc.description | This paper seeks to address the problem about the relationship between indigenous people and the Chilean armed forces. It focuses on the sociohistorical, legal and institutional analysis of this relationship from the independence to the present day. The main idea is that the policies oriented to produce a better integration between indigenous peoples and the armed forces should consider the unfortunate historical relationship where they have been excluded from the co-construction of the Republic’s institutions and national identity. The participation of the indigenous peoples into the armed forces requires that their rights be recognized as different peoples within a State, and from there to establish ways in which they want to form part of the armed forces contributing with their culture and traditions | en-US |
| dc.description | Este trabajo se concentra en el análisis socio-histórico, jurídico e institucional de las relaciones entre los pueblos indígenas y las Fuerzas Armadas desde la Independencia hasta nuestros días. La idea central del trabajo es que las políticas orientadas hacia una mejor integración entre los pueblos indígenas y las Fuerzas Armadas requieren abordar los problemas de una relación histórica en general desafortunada, en donde los indígenas han estado excluidos de la construcción de las instituciones de la República y de la identidad nacional. La participación de los pueblos indígenas al interior de las Fuerzas Armadas requieren reconomiento de sus derechos en las instituciones castrenses aportando desde su cultura, su historia y sus tradiciones | es-ES |
