El ensayo examina el pensamiento político de Giovanni Pontano y de Diomede Carafa, ambos políticos y humanistas al servicio de los reyes aragoneses de Nápoles durante la segunda mitad del siglo XV. El modelo de Estado, que proponen, se basa en la virtud entendida en su significado más amplio. El soberano debe estar dotado de múltiples virtudes tanto morales como políticas: son estas virtudes las que le capacitarán para gobernar y establecer una relación de amor mutuo con sus súbditos. Por otra parte, todo el cuerpo social y político debe estar sujeto a dos virtudes fundamentales: la obediencia y la justicia. Los súbditos tienen el deber de obedecer al rey y a los funcionarios públicos; a su vez el rey y los funcionarios públicos tienen el deber de impartir justicia en todos los estratos de la sociedad. Por lo tanto, la virtud no es sólo una función moral, ya que, al expandirse por todo el cuerpo político, se  convierte en un instrumento de solidez y unión de la comunidad.The essay deals with the political thinking of both Giovanni Pontano and Diomede Carafa, politicians and humanists on the service of the Aragonese Kings of Naples in the second half of the Fifteenth century. The state pattern they propose is essentially based on virtue, in its more ample significance. The monarch must have many moral and politic virtues, which make him able to rule and to establish a mutual love with subjects. The whole social and political body is supported by two other basic virtues: obedience and justice. Actually, subjects have to obey the king and those men charged with public offices; but at the same time the king and those men charged with public offices; but at the same time the king and his men have to keep justice alive at every level for the people. Therefore virtue has not only a moral function, but, working in the politic body, shuold be a tool that promotes union and solidity in the community.
