| dc.description | Este estudio trata de explicar el origen y características más relevantes de la vivienda vernácula de la zona baja de la cuenca del río Guayas. La mayoría de las edificaciones existentes se construyeron con mano de obra artesanal a fines del siglo XIX y principios del XX, cuando se vivía el auge cacaotero cuyo impacto económico permitió introducir mejoras y cambios en la arquitectura que se venía desarrollando desde la época colonial, los cuales luego constituirían aquello que se conoce como la arquitectura tradicional en madera de la costa ecuatoriana. Algunas edificaciones aún siguen en pie, tanto en el área urbana como rural, pese a la indiferencia que ha habido hacia este tipo de arquitectura, cuyo aporte sigue sin reconocerse totalmente cuando se habla del patrimonio construido del Ecuador. | es-ES |
| dc.description | This study attempts to explain the origin and most relevant characteristics of vernacular housing in the lower Guayas River Basin. Most of the existing buildings were built by craftsman in the late nineteenth and early twentieth centuries, during the cocoa boom whose economic impact made it possible to introduce architectural improvements and changes that had been in development since colonial times and which soon became known as the traditional wooden architecture of the Ecuadorian coast.Some of these buildings are still standing in both urban and rural areas, in spite of the indifference towards this type of architecture, whose contribution is still not fully recognized as part of Ecuador´s built heritage. | en-US |
