| dc.description | At the “Sara Braun” Municipal Cemetery of Punta Arenas there are two pavilions with graves of children, dating from the end of the nineteenth century to the middle of the twentieth century. In these sections there are 588 tombs, and an estimated 800 children were buried there. Still readable data of tombstones are matched with information obtained from cemetery records, and findings are complemented with these documents. An approach to their causes of death is tabulated and attempted, comparing them with the historical health context. Finally, we reflect on the reasons for burial of children distant from family tombs. | en-US |
| dc.description | En el Cementerio Municipal “Sara Braun” de Punta Arenas existen dos pabellones con sepulturas de párvulos, que datan desde fines del siglo XIX hasta mediados del siglo XX. En estas secciones hay 588 tumbas y se estima que unos 800 niños fueron sepultados allí. Se cotejan los datos aún legibles de las lápidas con la información obtenida de los registros del cementerio y se complementan los hallazgos con estos documentos. Junto con analizar la información, se discuten diversas hipótesis acerca de sus probables causasde muerte, las que se contrastan con estadísticas sociodemográficas y de morbilidad referidas al contexto histórico y sanitario de la época analizada. Finalmente se reflexiona sobre los motivos y significados para sepultar niños distantes de las tumbas familiares. | es-ES |
