Abstract: In the essay "John Donne and the Baroque Doubt" (1945), the poet Kathleen Raine examines metaphysical poetry as reflecting the transition from the Middle Ages to Modernity. The condition of spiritual doubt that attracts and repels is relevant as it is also present in Raine's own poetic work. This article examines the progression of a voice that aspires to incarnate the "metaphysical intuition" by taking into account Raine's poems and essays at different stages of creative work. The attempt to unify the eternal and the transient reveals visionary correspondences between the microcosmic and the macrocosmic realms.es-ES
