| dc.description | The objective of this article is to analyze the state's coercive actions in relation to public security in Lima,during the early republic. It is argued that the deployment of police agents in the city, which had begun inthe late eighteenth century, generated new types of relationships between the State and society. Thepopulation went through a learning process through which they could identify and take advantage of thepossibilities generated by the permanent presence of police officers in the city, to safeguard their safety. Inthat sense, the Lima people came to them not only when their security was threatened or violated, but alsothat of their neighbors. In this way, not only police intervention was generated in the streets, but also in private spaces, which allowed to repress practices based systematically on physical violence, which couldlead to homicides. | en-US |
| dc.description | El objetivo de este artículo es analizar el accionar coercitivo estatal en relación a la seguridad pública enLima, durante la temprana república. Se plantea que el despliegue de agentes policiales en la ciudad, quese había iniciado a fines del siglo XVIII, generó que emergieran nuevos tipos de relaciones entre el Estadoy la sociedad. La población atravesó un proceso de aprendizaje a través del cual pudo identificar yaprovechar las posibilidades que generaba la presencia permanente de agentes policiales en la ciudad, parasalvaguardar su seguridad. En ese sentido, los limeños acudían a ellos no solo cuando su seguridad eraamenazada o violentada, sino también la de sus vecinos. De esa forma, no solo se generaba la intervenciónpolicial en las calles, sino también en los espacios privados, lo que permitía reprimir prácticas basadassistemáticamente en la violencia física, y que podían desembocar en homicidios. | es-ES |
