Convergencias y divergencias: Saussure y Chomsky

| dc.description | The essay aims at a reflection on fundamental issues in linguistics contrasting the positions of Saussure and Chomsky. In general, both authors coincide in conceiving the mental nature of the language, although Saussure configures the object of linguistics from an external perspective. For Chomsky, the concepts are innate in the sense of the semantic features that enter compositionally into the meanings of the words. He also considers phonemes to be innate, understood as a set of distinctive features of a mental nature that, consequently, would be of a universal nature. Finally, in relation to the object of study of linguistics, Saussure’s and Chomsky's visions of the linguistic faculty are contrasted, emphasizing the latter's proposals regarding the creative aspect of language and the poverty of the stimulus in the acquisition of language. It is concluded that the convergences and divergences evidenced between these approaches must be placed in the context of their time to give intellectual justice to both. | en-US |
| dc.description | El ensayo apunta a una reflexión sobre temas fundamentales de lingüística contrastando las posturas de Saussure y Chomsky. En general, ambos autores coinciden en concebir la naturaleza mental de la lengua, aunque Saussure configure el objeto de la lingüística desde una mirada externa. Para Chomsky, los conceptos son innatos en el sentido de los rasgos semánticos que entran composicionalmente en los significados de las palabras. También considera innato los fonemas entendidos como conjunto de rasgos distintivos de naturaleza mental que, en consecuencia, serían de carácter universal. Finalmente, en relación con el objeto de estudio de la lingüística se contrasta la visión de Saussure y Chomsky en torno a la facultad lingüística, enfatizando las propuestas de este último respecto del aspecto creativo del lenguaje y la pobreza de estímulo en la adquisición de la lengua. Se concluye que las convergencias y divergencias evidenciadas entre dichos planteamientos hay que situarlas en la época de cada uno para hacerle justicia intelectual a ambos. | es-ES |
