Has the municipal associativism in Chile contributed to the strengthening of local decentralization? That is the question that the present article seeks to answer, analyzing the development of municipal associations in the country and investigating some incipient results. After a bibliographical - documentary analysis and the application of a structured interview to representatives of 15 municipal associations in Chile, elusive answers emerge: with lights and shadows, a mixture of moments of protagonism and experiences of absolute invisibility.¿Ha contribuido el asociativismo municipal en Chile al fortalecimiento de la descentralización local? Esa es la pregunta que el presente artículo busca responder, analizando el desarrollo de las asociaciones municipales en el país e indagando en algunos resultados incipientes. Tras un análisis bibliográfico – documental y de la aplicación de una entrevista estructurada a representantes de 15 asociaciones municipales en Chile, se desprenden respuestas esquivas: con luces y sombras, una mezcla de momentos de protagonismo y experiencias de absoluta invisibilidad.
