Durante la segunda mitad del siglo XIX, los Estados nacionales latinoamericanos se enfocaron en demarcar los límites de su soberanía territorial mediante la creación delíneas de fronteras. Debido a esto, con el paso del tiempo fueron emergiendo comunidades que se asentaron en los espacios fronterizos, teniendo un ritmo histórico y social distinto al resto del país, en donde las relaciones transfronterizas posibilitaron la creación de otras formas de sociabilidad y culturalidad. En este artículo se aborda, desde una revisión historiográfica, el caso de los ámbitos fronterizos del norte mexicano y del norte de Chile, en los que se dieron procesos convergentes y divergentes que marcaron el desarrollo de ambas sociedadesDuring the second half of the XIX century, the latin american national states focused on delimitating the frontiers of the territorial sovereignity through the creation of formal frontiers. Due to this, with the passing of time a number of communities that settled on the border areas, having a historical and social rythm that became distinctly different from the rest of their countries and societies. This enabled transborder relations that allowed other forms of sociability and cultural patterns from the core of their societies. In this article we face, from an historiographical perspective and review, the enviroments of Mexican and northern Chile, on both of which there was a converging and diverging pattern that marked the development of both societies.
