Durante muchos años el tren ha constituido la principal vía de comunicación en Ecuador. El tren abrió un espacio a la comercialización de productos, dinamizó las economías y el intercambio cultural de las regiones, y creó vida a su alrededor formando un conjunto de experiencias tanto en quienes lo abordaban como en quienes lo veían pasar. Sin embargo, con 30 años de abandono ese progreso lentamente desapareció. El objetivo principal de esta investigación fue estudiar la ruta turística “Tren del Hielo 2” localizada en el centro del Ecuador. La metodología incluyó la aplicación de un cuestionario a los turistas que recorren la ruta turística. Los resultados muestran el impacto que ha generado este proyecto turístico en el ámbito económico después de su implementación. Se destacan los mayores ingresos económicos obtenidos en las ciudades y el éxito de los emprendimientos de servicios. Además, los resultados permiten destacar la visión de cuál ha sido el beneficio al formar parte del proyecto turístico Tren Ecuador. Palabras clave: Ruta turística “Tren del Hielo 2”, ingresos económicos, emprendimientos de servicios. AbstractFor many years the train has been the main communication channel in Ecuador. The train opened up a space for product marketing, it invigorated the economies and cultural exchange of the regions, and brought life to its surroundings, forming a set of experiences for both those who approached it and those who watched it go by. However, with 30 years of neglect, that progress slowly disappeared. The main objective of this investigation was to study the “Tren del Hielo 2” tourist route located in the center of Ecuador. The methodology included the application of a questionnaire to the tourists taking the route. The results show the impact that this tourist project has had on the economic domain since its implementation. The increased revenues obtained in the cities and the success of the service companies are worthy of note.
