| dc.description | The influence of American culture and the formation of a mass culture in Santiago de Chile in the early twentieth centuries influenced a change in the concept and construction of masculinities. This would be achieved through large imports of both beauty and fashion of sociability (such as sports and social activities), which hit the ‘must be’ of the Chilean man. Whereas being male as well as being a woman are social constructs, we think that in the early twentieth century, the construction of the Chilean model of man based on American trends that were being reappropriated by the young audience of upper-middle class Chile, showing the strong influence of the United States in these respects. | en-US |
| dc.description | La influencia de la cultura norteamericana y la conformación de una cultura de masas en Santiago de Chile de principios del siglo XX influyeron en un cambio de la noción y construcción de las masculinidades. Esto se habría logrado mediante las numerosas importaciones de modas tanto de belleza como de sociabilidades (como actividades deportivas y sociales), las que impactaron en el “deber ser” del hombre chileno. Considerando que el ser hombre tanto como el ser mujer son construcciones sociales, pensamos que a principios del siglo XX la construcción del modelo de hombre chileno se basó en las tendencias americanas que fueron siendo re-apropiadas por el público joven de clase media-alta chileno, evidenciando la marcada influencia de los Estados Unidos en estos aspectos. | es-ES |
